Cultivating a Daily Practice

...although the path to enlightenment is a somewhat
rigorous undertaking, it is well worthwhile.

For those who attend the initiation and wish to cultivate a daily training, it is common to begin by performing a six session guruyoga method. A number of texts of this nature exist.

This type of practice presents a concise review of the important points in the generation stage yogas of the Kalachakra path, within the context of a guruyoga prayer and meditation.

Practices of this nature are called 'six-session yogas' because they are meant to be recited and contemplated three times during the day and three times at night. If this is not possible then one should try to read and meditate on the guruyoga text at least once each day, blending the meaning of the words with one's mindstream.

This is how we should begin our training. However, we should not limit our practice to this level of endeavor alone. To best fulfill the purpose of the initiation, we should take a six-session guruyoga method as the basis of our daily meditation and then month by month, year by year, we should try to constantly expand our minds in knowledge of the practice.

At the beginning we should study in depth the nature of the Kalachakra path, its generation and completion stage yogas, paying special attention to those aspects that we find most difficult to understand. Then, having heard and reflected upon the instructions, we should try to generate realization of them within our own stream of being.

As explained above, at the moment our minds are bound by habitual modes of perception, modes that are distorting and impure. We must dissolve these impure patterns of thought and this false posturing into the dharmadhatu reality, the nature of emptiness.

Should we accomplish that task then we automatically fulfill the purposed of Buddhadharma, of the Mahayana, of the Vajrayana, of highest yoga tantra, and of having received the Kalachakra initiation.

Although the path to enlightenment is a somewhat rigorous undertaking, it is well worthwhile. The wise, therefore, energetically apply themselves to it.
